In a swirl of heavy guitar and synth, Gary Numan took to the stage at Mohawk as part of his second North American Savage tour. The show opened strong with “Everything Comes Down to This” and continued in a wonderful blend of older and newer music, from Replica’s “Me, I Disconnect From You” to Savage (Songs from a Broken World)’s “My Name is Ruin”. Dressed as characters from the broken and savage apocalyptic world imagined in the newest album, the band was loud and energetic –Gary himself dancing enthusiastically around the stage. The setlist ended with a guitar heavy version of “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” and appreciative smiles from Numan to the audience. They returned to the stage for a two song encore, playing “Ghost Nation” and ending the show with “A Prayer for the Unborn”. It was a fantastic show and a beautiful experience –I’m already excited for the next time I get to see him perform.
