On May 17, 2025, The Damned brought their North and South America 2025 Tour to Austin’s Radio/East, delivering a performance that was both electrifying and steeped in punk history. The band, featuring original members Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies, and Paul Gray, along with keyboardist Monty Oxymoron, captivated the audience with a dynamic set that spanned their extensive catalog.
The evening’s setlist was a testament to The Damned’s enduring influence, featuring classics like “Love Song,” “Machine Gun Etiquette,” and “Wait for the Blackout.” The band also showcased their versatility with covers such as Barry Ryan’s “Eloise,” Love’s “Alone Again Or,” and Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit,” each delivered with their unique punk flair. The performance was further enriched by tracks from their latest album, Darkadelic, including “The Invisible Man” and “Beware of the Clown,” demonstrating their continued relevance in the modern music scene.
The open-air setting of Radio/East provided the perfect backdrop for The Damned’s high-energy performance, allowing for a close connection between the band and their fans. As the night concluded with the anthemic “Smash It Up,” the audience was left exhilarated, having witnessed a band that continues to defy expectations and deliver powerful live shows nearly five decades into their career.
