On May 22, 2025, GWAR descended upon Austin’s Radio/East, delivering a performance that was equal parts theatrical spectacle and sonic onslaught. Celebrating their 40th anniversary, the band transformed the open-air venue into a battleground of heavy metal mayhem, complete with their signature costumes, elaborate props, and copious amounts of fake blood. The evening was a testament to GWAR’s enduring ability to shock, entertain, and engage audiences with their unique brand of performance art.

The setlist was a journey through GWAR’s extensive catalog, featuring fan favorites like “Fuck This Place,” “Metal Metal Land,” and “El Presidente.” The band also treated the audience to deeper cuts such as “Womb With a View” and “Jack the World,” showcasing their musical versatility and commitment to delivering a comprehensive experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. The encore, highlighted by the anthemic “Sick of You,” left the crowd in a state of euphoric exhaustion, a hallmark of any GWAR show.

The atmosphere at Radio/East was electric, with the outdoor setting amplifying the communal energy of the crowd. Attendees were fully immersed in the chaos, many adorned in white shirts that served as canvases for the band’s infamous blood sprays. The combination of GWAR’s relentless performance and the enthusiastic participation of the audience created an unforgettable evening that reaffirmed the band’s status as legends of the live music scene.
