Before SXSW 2016, Shura was on my radar as a new artist that might make an appearance, but when I asked if she was performing, she said no. I was bummed, but then her album dropped in July and she announced she was touring with Tegan and Sara.
She opened the show with my favorite song “Make It Up,” airy vocals in the RnB vein but with a solid presence backed with live electronic dynamic drum beats and another band member on bass/synth. Shura is what would happen if you gave shoe gaze a spoonful of sugar and some dancing shoes.
