Andrew W.K.’s appropriately named “The Party Never Dies” Tour came to the Mohawk after a five-year hiatus of touring with his full band and reminded us that even though Andrew W.K. has not released a new album in over a decade (not counting the covers or instrumental solo piano album), the spirit of positive partying is unstoppable when the music rocks you to the core with the anticipation of a new album coming soon. The show had all the makings of an AWK show we love and remember: piano rock directing a power chords guitar laden gala immensely projected. Once AWK started punch singing on stage, the crowd knew it was time to party and was brought to life with a vigor of a heavy metal punk fervor. There was no mistaking when the maestro’s piano mastery was about to be displayed once AWK’s mic went down into the front of his pants –freeing up his fingers to command the piano keys to party. As loud and rowdy as the music was, there was always a cohesive melody to the madness. Andrew W.K. and band are a live show to be experienced.
